Once you have chosen your accommodation with VivaHouse Dublin, the staff will help you with the paperwork in order to get a PPS number.

The PPS number (Personal Public Access Number) is an essential requirement if you are looking for employment in Ireland. It is the equivalent of the National Insurance Number in the UK. If you have your PPS number, you will be able to find a job and being registered for taxes.

To apply for PPS number you MUST be physically in Ireland. You can not ask for the PPS number before moving to Ireland. When you are in the country, you need to take some documentation to the Social Welfare Office. You will be asked to produce evidence of identity with an I.D. (passport or national identity card) and evidence of residence in Ireland such as a proof of address.

Please note that it is NOT strictly necessary to have the PPS number to find a job. If you begin to work without a PPS number (for example if you got a  job when you are still abroad), the Tax Office puts you in the "Emergency Tax", which means you pay the maximum taxes (about half of your salary). In this situation, the Tax Office will amend the error as soon as you complete the paperwork for your PPS number and you will be entitled for a tax refund afterwards. For this reason, we recommend you to complete your application before looking for work.

VivaHouse Dublin offers support for that. In general, the hostels will not do this for you. In any case, if you give the address of a hostel, the company you are applying to for a job will not take your application seriously because they will think you are not serious about staying and that you are only passing why with no intention to work for long.
